ABOUT US

Located near downtown St. Louis, WORTH Industries is one of 93 Missouri Sheltered Workshops, which are non-profit businesses, licensed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, for the purpose of providing commercially useful employment for adults with disabilities.

Our supervised employees are qualified and certified by the Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation Organization and have been deemed unemployable in the everyday workforce, but capable of safely and accurately performing specified sets of tasks in a supervised environment.

Worth provides commercially competitive services to leading St. Louis area business, organizations and institutions. Our employees perform commercially viable work for real pay in accordance with guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Labor.  All employees pay taxes on their income.

WORTH Industries is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, founded in 1978, and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  Board members include local business people, educators, lawyers, accountants, and family members of employees. The board determines the long-term goals and objectives and hires an operational management staff to supervise the day-to-day operations.

We derive approximately 75% of our income through commercially competitive contracts for work performed by our supervised employees.  Approximately 18% of our income comes from governmental sources, including the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which pays a stipend of $13/day for each supervised employee.  Additional funding comes from the St. Louis Office for Mental Retardation and Developmental Disability Resources and the Greater St. Louis Regional Empowerment Zone.

The balance of our income, approximately 7%, currently comes from charitable, tax-exempt gifts.
